OCS – Carbonyl Sulfide

Precision Monitoring for Carbonyl Sulfide

Carbonyl sulfide is a colorless, flammable gas with a faintly sweet odor. It has a long atmospheric lifetime and is the most abundant sulfur-containing gas in the atmosphere acting as a precursor to sulfur aerosols in the stratosphere. Natural sources of OCS in the atmosphere include plants and sediments in coastal areas and lakes and is often used as a photosynthesis tracer due to the update of OCS by vegetation and hydrolysis into carbonic anhydrase. Anthropogenic sources include chemical synthesis and industrial processes such as semiconductor manufacturing.
